News Articles Reporting on 'Beauty and the Beast' TCA Press Tour
|
Here are some of the various online media articles reporting on The CW's Beauty and the Beast 'Television Critics Association' (TCA) press tour held yesterday.
From: TheWrap "...Speaking at a Television Critics Association panel, he said the CW hopes that the young men who used to watch "Superman" will tune in for the new DC Comics-inspired "Arrow." The darkness of its "Beauty and the Beast," starring "Smallville" alum Kristin Kreuk, may also appeal to young men, though it is a romance at heart that should appeal to young women, Pedowitz said. The network is revamping this season after its ratings slipped last season. It has blamed the fact that many CW viewers watch its shows online instead of on television, and has launched a new campaign to pull viewers back to TV. But it is also making a subtle bid for male viewers. While many of its shows merge melodrama, music and fashion to lure young women, this season's "Arrow," "Beauty" and "The Cult" are grittier than the CW norm..." From: HollywoodReporter "...So why Beauty and the Beast and not Jekyll and Hyde? Cooper and Levin were very big fans of the 1987 original starring Linda Hamilton and a grizzly Ron Perlman. Those two characters, names and all, motivated for the reboot. "We named them that because when it was brought to us, they said we had the rights to the '80s show," said Cooper. "We loved the '80s show, but we felt like we didn't just want to copy." As for the original, Hamilton has apparently given the successor to her role a nod of approval. They had a note waiting for new Catherine, Kristin Kreuk, when she started shooting in Toronto. "I got in on our first day of work and it was in my trailer," said Kreuk. "It was really nice for her to know what we're doing and wishing us well. It's rad."..." To read the complete article: CLICK HERE
From: TVGuide "...As the beast becomes "beastlier," the show will explore the reasons why, including if he's developing feelings for Catherine Chandler (Kreuk), a cop, or if he's hiding something deeper within. But Cooper and Levin are very conscious of making sure not to portray Catherine and Vincent's relationship as an abusive one. "There is this moral code underneath it and we're careful to not cross that," Cooper said. "There's that fine line. ... [But] he's not attacking her [when he's a beast]." Cooper and Levin chose to remake the '80s series because they were huge fans of the original, which starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. Though Perlman claimed last week at TCAs that he was unaware of the reboot, Hamilton gave Kreuk and Ryan a seal of approval, sending them notes and photos on their first day of shooting."She signed photos for us. It was unexpected and surprising and wonderful," Kreuk said. "It was really nice for her to know what we're doing and wishing us well."..." To read the complete article: CLICK HERE |
