blog beauty and the the beast cw first promo 02

From: blastr

"One of the most talked-about new shows this fall is The CW's Beauty and the Beast. It stars Smallville's Kristen Kreuk and Terra Nova's Jay Ryan. We interviewed Ryan during this year's San Diego Comic-Con, and he answered a question we all want answered. What's with the Beast's face?...Ryan explained that in this version, there are varying levels of beastliness to his character. "The backstory of our beast, ours is different," he said. "Ours is about this internal demon inside him, which is chemical and comes out. For me, it's not about what he looks like. That's just a sidebar to it. It's about how a human behaves. And how his mind is like this tangled mess of noble and savage impulses."..."

"Producers noted that they wooed Kreuk to play Catherine with sweets. "We wooed her with cupcakes," co-creator Levin said with a laugh.

One of three rookie shows to receive the grand treatment in Ballroom 20 at the San Diego event, the cast and creators world premiered the pilot to an enthusiastic crowd, who cheered Kreuk's intense fight scenes and laughed at former Life Unexpected star Austin Basis' quips to the scarred but sexy beast....As for whether Kreuk's former Smallville co-stars could show up, the actress previously known as Lana Lang noted that she'd love to see it happen, with producers open to the possibility. "It'd be fun to bring them in for a different role," Souders said..."

"4:17 p.m. The Q&A portion of the panel has started. The cast are on stage. Moderator Dalton Ross acknowledges how lucky Kristin Kreuk is (first getting Superman, now this handsome beast). He then acknowledges how attractive the beast is. Seems like most of his beastliness is internal (adrenaline-induced rage and that sort of thing), but he does get a sort of veiny thing in his face. The writers woo'ed Kristin with cupcakes to get her do the part.

4:20 p.m. - Writers talking about how this series is a procedural and a love-story. The spirit of the orignal series is still in there. Mentions of the original story, and the idea that there are beauties and beasts in all of us. As for the serialized element, which includes Vincent's backstory (a military experiment gone wrong turned him into a beast) and Catherine's mother's death, they're still working on how that will fit into the series going forward..."

"While there are definite changes to the series, they promise to keep the romance alive. Episodes have three major forces guiding them: romance, the mythology and the romance...

There were two competing Beauty and the Beast projects, both seeking Kreuk, but the creators of the CW Pilot won her over... with cupcakes. Ryan is still waiting on his cupcakes...They are still tweaking the design of the Beast, even with some makeup tests yesterday...Kreuk said a major difference between Catherine and Lana is that Catherine is more emotionally restricted than Lana was...Shooting begins at the end of the month and will continue through December...Series premieres on the CW on October 11th..."

Another panel discussion blog breakdown:

"4.19pmLevin on ABC's rival B&B project (now abandoned) which also competed for Kreuk's signature: "We wooed her with cupcakes. We met her and wanted her badly, so we drove to her agent's office with cupcakes. We thought 'what are we doing?' But it worked, she's so easy."

4.18pmBeastie on the lack of his mullet: "The Beast creation is still in development from the pilot. He's not a lion. Ours is obviously a result of a military experiment so it's more of a chemical imbalance in his body."

4.17pmKreuk on a Matrix-style fight scene on the New York subway (the best part of the episode): "My character is very capable. It's important to her not to be a victim, especially after her mum was killed in front of her."..."

As for 'MY' own account of the panel? Well, I don't have one...I opted for the chance to meet Kristin Kreuk instead. Can you blame me? And luckily, I did!! :) What an amazing experience! One which I will hopefully write about once I descend from cloud 9 ;)
